About Janice Brent

I spent much of my working life in the editorial departments of Puffin and Penguin Books, then Headline Publishing, and finally as a freelance copy editor and proof reader. I’d come across and very much liked a couple of Catullus’ poems in Thornton Wilder’s novel The Ides of March, and after retiring I decided to use my A-level Latin to read some more. I found the poems breathtaking in their directness, and translated a few of them to help me with my understanding - so here they are, in what I hope is clear modern English!
